Matthew 28:16-20

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

2 Timothy 1:6-9

For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

2 Corinthians 11:21-29

To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to boast about—I am speaking as a fool—I also dare to boast about. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I. Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?

Message Notes

1. Isolated vs Insulated

Isolate = to separate from another substance so as to obtain pure or in a free state

Insulate = protect (something) by interposing material that prevents the loss of heat or the intrusion of sound.

Paul wasn’t asking Timothy to isolate himself from dangerous situations but in the midst of those very situations to not be fearful but to exhibit power, love and sound thinking

Isolated prayer = God keeps us from it. Insulated prayer = God we trust you to keep us while we are in it.

2. The way we pray will indicate what’s important.

When we constantly make safety the focus of our prayer we will never accomplish all that God has set out for us to accomplish.

8So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.9He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.

Can we spend less time praying for things He has already promised and begin to pray for things that will actually change the world?

3. God’s most important work for you might include you walking right through your greatest fear.

Every human in history that accomplished great things for Christ had to deal with fear.

In light of God’s promises, we can move forward in the face of fear. God is our safety. We do not need to have a spirit of fear because we are given power, love and a sound mind by the Spirit of God
