In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
1. You’ll never see what you refuse to look at.
We don’t see other peoples problems because we simply don’t take the time to look.
There was a divide between the Greek-speaking Jews and the Hebraic Jews and as the church grew the Greek-speaking widows were being left out.
What issues in our culture are continuing simply because we haven’t taken the time to look?
2. Clarity is king. The right prescription for the right distance.
Proverbs 4:25-27 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the[a] paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
No matter what level you are looking at clarity is king. Never let the circumstances cause blurry vision. I must be aware of how my role moves the whole thing forward.
We should never dismiss something just because it is not clear to us.
3. The church needs trifocals.
It’s not either or it’s both and…
There is no better vision than another, there is just better clarity at every level.
When people have clarity of their part of the whole vision then everything and everyone gets noticed.
Use someone else’s clarity as an asset, not an agitation.
